Description
Organic aymak is a group of farms that are part of one or several villages in mountainous regions that have common sources of water and adjacent lands, which on a voluntary basis have agreed among themselves and jointly develop in their territory agriculture based on organic agritechnologies and traditional knowledge. There are 10 organic aymaks in Kyrgyzstan: 2 in Talas oblast, 2 in Naryn oblast, 5 in Issyk-Kul oblast and 1 in Chui oblast. BIO-KG Federation of Organic Development is playing a role of facilitator in establishment, promotion and fundraising for organic aymaks since 2013. The experience of several years of implementation of Organic aymak (village), as an integrated model of sustainable development of rural and mountain communities, showed its prospects. Fair-Exhibition, with the participation of Organic Aymak products in registered packaging manufacturer, has become a clear example of the fact that (i) the manufacturer is ready to cooperate with the responsible "buyer" (and the buyer, even if indirectly, give a guarantee to cooperate with each other). Traditional peasant farmers were able to see the positive side and profits of becoming organic aimaks.
