Description | Participatory Ecological Land Use Management (PELUM) Kenya is a national network which currently comprises of 61 Member Organizations (MOs). PELUM Kenya works with its Member Organizations to promote ecological land use principles and management practices for improved livelihoods among small scale farmers and pastoralists in Kenya. The members of PELUM Kenya are Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Community Based Or-ganizations (CBOs) and other networks working with small scale farmers in the field of agroecology. The members of PELUM Kenya are categorized in to four networking zones namely Nairobi/ Central zone; Upper Eastern & Northern Kenya Zone; Lower Eastern & Coast Zone; Central Rift Valley, Western zone & Nyanza Zone. PELUM Kenya is also the Regional Secretariat for the of Ecological Organic Agriculture Initiative in Eastern Africa. PELUM Kenya has a National Secretariat (Country Office) which is headed by a Country Coordinator with a team of 22 committed staff encompassing a variety of skills and competencies. The Country Secretariat functions as a hub for communication and sharing information as well as coordinating the network operations. The Governance of PELUM Kenya is composed of an Annual General Meeting (AGM) whose delegates are nominated by member organizations who meet once a year to deliberate on the performance of the Network and provide leadership. There is also a Board of 7 Directors who hold office after every three years and are elected during the AGM from the 4 networking zones. The Country Coordinator is also a member of the Board by virtue of his position as the Chief Executive Officer. To strengthen the Board, there is a further the option of coopting at least two more board members. There are three operational board sub-committees: executive, finance and technical subcommittees whose tasks are to address fur-ther technical issues in the respective areas. |
